During a visit to Hungary in 1993, the large, aging gates marking the entryways to various historical buildings impressed me. My gates are a tool for the viewer to engage their own imagination in a creative way in which there are no stringent rules, no right answers. All that is required is the willingness to open one’s mind and let the images spark the viewer’s own conscious and subconscious thoughts and emotions pertaining to both the gates in the paintings and the gates of the viewer’s psyche.
